Bid for Fire Truck is Accepted by Village

The East Aurora Fire Dept. will soon be getting a new heavy rescue vehicle. At its Sept. 15 meeting, the East Aurora Village Board voted unanimously to accept a $543,265 bid from Pierce Manufacturing for the vehicle. Several fire department volunteers were in attendance at the meeting, but did not speak about the new truck.
Local Resident to Scale Kilimanjaro for Charity

Ron Book has his sights set high--19,365 feet above sea level, to be precise. That's the height of the peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro, which the 72-year-old East Aurora resident hopes to reach in mid-October. He will leave home Oct. 7 and begin the climb on Oct. 10. "It's going to be a seven-day adventure," Book said.
Aurora More Open to New Gleed Contracts

East Aurora Pizza Hut Closes

The Pizza Hut restaurant at 186 Quaker Rd., East Aurora, was among seven Pizza Huts in Western New York to close Thurs., Sept. 25. All seven were owned by Hospitality West LLC, which reportedly cited poor performance at the restaurants as its reason for closing them. Prior to the closings, Hospitality West operated 24 Pizza Hut locations in the region.
$49.6 Million Iroquois Proposal Goes to Vote on Oct. 14

Voters on Tues., Oct. 14 will decide on a $49.6 million capital facilities project proposed for the Iroquois school district. If approved, the project will include additions to four of the district's six school buildings, renovations in every school building and work at the district's bus garage. Work would begin in spring 2010 and continue until late 2012.
Wales Budget Plan Includes Tax Rate Cut

The Town of Wales became the first community in the immediate area to release its tentative 2009 budget on Sept. 22. Supervisor Rickey A. Venditti held a special meeting at the Town Hall in Wales Center to discuss the contents of the budget.
